Haxx expands its storage capacity to 660,000 m³ with its new facilities in Cartagena and Málaga, consolidating its position as one of the sector’s leading players

Madrid. Haxx, a leading multi-energy operator in the Spanish market, has strengthened its logistics network with the addition of two new hydrocarbon storage terminals in Cartagena and Málaga. This expansion adds more than 660,000 m³ of storage capacity and brings the company’s total footprint to seven facilities across Spain.

This development is part of Haxx’s growth and diversification strategy, aimed at enhancing service capacity and optimising the fuel and biofuel supply chain across Southern Europe. With these new operations, Haxx strengthens its presence at key import and distribution hubs, increasing its competitiveness and its ability to respond to evolving market demands.

The Cartagena terminal, located at the Port of Escombreras, covers an area of 21,000 m² and offers a storage capacity of 110,000 m³ distributed across five tanks. As one of Spain’s main hydrocarbon entry points, the facility is equipped with fully automated systems that enable vessel unloading, storage, blending and truck loading with maximum efficiency and safety. It also benefits from a direct connection to the Exolum network, enhancing operational performance and ensuring optimised logistics flows.

Meanwhile, the Málaga facility, located at Pier 9 of the city’s port, spans 16,239 m² and provides 40,000 m³ of storage capacity across seven tanks. Part of the port’s petrochemical complex, this terminal has established itself as a key entry point for traditional fuels and as a leading hub for biofuels.

The facility features advanced technology for the integrated management of unloading, storage, blending and product dispatch, enabling the handling of gasoil, biofuels (UCOME, FAME), used cooking oils (UCO) and palm oils, among others. Its strategic location in southern Spain further strengthens Haxx’s ability to respond swiftly to both domestic and international market needs.

With the addition of these two new facilities, Haxx reaches a total storage capacity of 660,000 m³. Among its most significant assets is Petróleos Asturianos, which contributes 240,000 m³, making it the group’s largest infrastructure. This is followed by the Tancar terminal in Cartagena with 110,000 m³, and DBA Motril Port, which adds 106,527 m³.

The network is completed by DBA Ferrol Port with 90,000 m³, DBA Bilbao Port with 63,250 m³, the ODT facility in Málaga with 40,000 m³, and DBA Ocaña with 10,520 m³.

Beyond storage volumes, these terminals cover areas ranging from 16,239 m² in Málaga to 37,344 m² at Petróleos Asturianos, reflecting an extensive and diversified infrastructure that underpins the group’s logistics operations.

According to Diego Guardamino, CEO of Haxx, “the addition of these terminals represents another step forward in our growth and diversification strategy. It allows us to strengthen our presence in Spain and deliver a more agile, secure and efficient logistics service to our clients.”

Driving energy diversification

These two new terminals not only represent a significant increase in Haxx’s storage capacity, but also reflect the company’s strong commitment to the modernisation and diversification of its logistics network.

Haxx thereby consolidates its role as a multi-energy operator in Spain, capable of managing the entire value chain of fuels and derivatives, including importation, storage, transport, distribution and marketing. Through this investment, the company reinforces its objective of providing a secure, efficient and diversified energy supply, fully aligned with evolving regulatory requirements and the energy transition trends shaping the future of the sector.
